Neoen acknowledges the Gomeroi & Anaiwan people, Traditional Owners of the land on which Thunderbolt Wind Farm will harvest the energy of the wind. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

Providing Renewable Energy to AUstralia

The Uralla region is home to both outstanding wind and solar resources. Also unique to the area, the wind tends to blow most strongly at night, when the sun is not shining.

To take advantage of these resources, Thunderbolt Wind Farm will host 32 Wind Turbines on predominately cleared agricultural land. The favourable wind resources ensures that the project can generate electricity to the National Energy Market (NEM) and help further reduce wholesale electricity prices through cheap, renewable generation.

NEW ENGLAND RENEWABLE ENERGY ZONE

Thunderbolt Wind Farm is being proposed in the New England REZ, announced by NSW Government in late 2021. The New England REZ is proposed to deliver 8 GW of renewable energy to support the transition to a renewable energy-based electricity market.

The REZ is expected to generate $10.7 billion investment, 1,250 construction jobs and 830 operations jobs. The REZ plays a vital role in delivering affordable, reliable generation to NSW consumers to help replace the State’s existing power stations as they approach their end of life.

Thunderbolt is in a unique position in which it will connect to existing infrastructure, and is not reliant on the New England REZ works in order to generate electricity on the grid.

We are working with Umwelt, who are undertaking seasonal ecology surveys over the project’s proposed footprint. The results from these surveys feed into the project’s design process and development application.

The detailed surveys for the biodiversity assessment report is publicly available on the major projects planning portal.
